Love Talks - Couple's Group

About this Course

Most couples don't seek help for their marriage until SIX years after the problems start! If you don't want to be that couple, this group is for you.

Love Talks gives you simple relationship science that every couple should know but none of us were ever taught. We address patterns, expectations, and how to communicate more clearly with each other, no matter what your love language is.

The goal of this group is to support couples who are at a stable place in their relationship but also understand that relationships require maintenance and basic skills that can be learned by anyone. Come ready to laugh while you learn!

We meet online each Sunday in March from 8:30 am - 11:30 am PST.

Topics:

Feb 27: Orientation (2 hours)
Mar 6: How to Make It Last
Mar 13: Love is Not Enough
Mar 20: When Bills Need to Paid
Mar 27: The Bedroom and Beyond

NOTE: This workshop is NOT for couples who are currently in a serious relationship crisis. If you need support, please contact our Couple's Counsellor at Dragonfly Wellness Centre to arrange a consultation for private couple's counselling.

The in-person Love Talks Group for 2022 is complete. Registration for 2023 has not yet opened.

Course Modules

Orientation

During Orientation, we will be introducing ourselves as facilitators, what to expect from us and what we will expect from you, what you will get from this series, and an overview of the four weeks. There will be time for Q&A and registration during Orientation. All couples must attend/review Orientation in order to participate in the group. Orientation will be recorded for those who cannot be there in person to review before our first meeting.

Week 1: How to Make It Last

Just saying "I do" doesn't make it last. The skills that got you IN to the relationship are different than the skills you need to MAINTAIN the relationship. In this session you will learn about the fundamentals of the Relationship Triangle, identify which stage you are in, and learn how to keep things moving forward.

Week 2: Love is Not Enough

Understanding, connection, trust, respect, commitment, and kindness - if these aren't present then "love" stands on rocky foundations. In this session you will learn how to communicate in a more effective way in your day-to-day interactions with each other and how to fight gracefully.

Week 3: When Bills Need to Paid

The logistics of living together can eventually take a toll on you if you don't have systems in place to run your home and family. In this session we will discuss finances, child-rearing, in-laws and extended family, the impact of work on the relationship, and other domestic considerations.

Week 4: The Bedroom and Beyond

Do you wish you could have those old sparks back? Keeping connected through the ups and downs of marriage can be challenging, and sometimes your sex-life can be impacted. In this session we will explore physical and emotional intimacy and how to keep the fires burning for the long-term.
